Course Aims

This course is designed to raise awareness of Extremism, Radicalisation and the Prevent Duty, your role as a health and social care worker, and the expectations in Health and Social Care.

The course begins by exploring the meaning of the Prevent Duty and the terms associated with it. This includes learning about key terms: Terrorism, Extremism and Radicalisation. Module one also explains the Prevent Strategy and Prevent Duty.

Module 2 looks at how an individual may be vulnerable to being radicalised and how vulnerability can arise from different causes such as isolation, bereavement, or personal crisis. This module also explores how individuals can be exposed to radicalisation and the indicators that may cause concerns including withdrawal from usual interests, family, and friends.

In the final stage of the course, you will learn about how to manage any concerns you may have. Radicalisation is a safeguarding issue and should be recorded and reported in the same way. This module emphasises how important it is to familiarise yourself with your organisations safeguarding policies and procedures. It also looks at the support that can be provided through a multi-agency safeguarding programme called Channel, which safeguards vulnerable individuals identified as being drawn into terrorism.

Guided Learning Hours: up to 45 minutes, dependent on learner’s skills and abilities.
