Frequently Asked Questions – Care Train The Trainer

The level 3 Award in Education and Training is an accredited qualification suitable for individuals who:
• are not yet in a teaching role (pre-service)
• are in a teaching role, or who have just started a teaching role (in-service)
• want a short qualification
• want a qualification without a minimum teaching practice requirement
This award replaces the PTTLLS qualification and is perfect for aspiring trainers who want or need to gain the knowledge and skills in managing the training environment and gaining the knowledge, understanding and practical skills in teaching their learners.
It is particularly suitable for those entering into a health and social care workplace training role and it is also professional development for existing trainers if they do not have an accredited teaching qualification.

These are the minimum requirements for application to complete the Train the Trainer Programme.

Level 3 Award in Education and Training
There are no specific entry requirements and students do not need to have teaching practice hours to achieve the qualification.
The qualification is suitable for students of 19 years of age and above.

Moving and Handling Trainer Requirements
• Students must have the knowledge and practical experience of working in the health and social care sector, and
• Experience in working activities in moving and handling people
• A current and valid training certificate in Moving and Handling

First Aid Trainer Requirements
• Students must have the knowledge and practical experience of working in the health and social care sector, and
• Have a current and valid ‘First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate, OR a current and valid ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’ (EFAW) certificate as a minimum if they are ONLY training in-house (within their own organisation).

The programme of training is strategically planned over a 2 week period. Students are enrolled on their online courses for each course. The level 3 qualification requires them to complete a written workbook, which is downloadable from the course. Expectations are that the online courses are completed within 1 week. The guided learning hours for course reference TTL3+2 online is approx.. 12 hours, dependent on a student’s skills and abilities. The Level 3 qualification is expected to take approx.. 6 hours of guided learning.

Students are provided with a reading list for their Level 3 Award and it is an expectation that they upskill their knowledge by engaging in some reading and research to support them to complete their workbook.

The online training supports the student to be independent in their learning and time their study around work, if needed.

The Student’s Assessor will arrange the assessment and observation in week 2 and give advice on how to successfully prepare for this session. There is also a full Assessment and Observation Pack available to the student.

Careskills Academy will also train students in blended learning solutions for their service, and equip them with the knowledge, expertise and resources to deliver this way of training. This is a solution that involves staff completing their mandatory training using Careskills online training and then the trainer picking up the training for all practical activities that staff need experience of, before supporting vulnerable individuals.

In order to become a Trainer for Moving & Handling and/or First Aid, the student must be observed in their teaching role, which a Careskills Assessor will arrange with them. This is carried out after the student has completed all their online training for their chosen Train the Trainer Programme.

The observation and assessment of the student’s teaching practice will be over Microsoft Teams, so there must be a laptop or suitable device available in your workplace for this. The device must have a camera and sound and be placed in a position that captures the training environment that the student will be observed in.

We will ask the student to fully prepare for this, so that their observation session runs smoothly and seamlessly and they achieve their qualification in the most seamless and positive way possible. The session will last approx. 1 hour. The student will be expected to have a minimum of 2 learners attend their training observation.

Shared observations
If there is more than 1 student completing the same programme of training, then they are permitted to double up for their assessment. They must have a minimum of 1 other learner for the assessment. If there are more than 2 students completing the same programme then the Assessor may book more than 1 assessment, at their discretion.
