Q: Why is end of life care important?

Effective end of life care improves the quality of life of the dying person and those important to them. Palliative care is an essential part of the end of life care. This includes reducing pain for patients who are battling incurable illnesses. This also extends to providing comfort to family members who have to endure the stress of watching their loved ones go through such tragic situations.

Q: How long does end of life care last?

End of life care should begin when you need it and may last a few days or months, or sometimes more than a year. People in lots of different situations can benefit from end of life care. Some of them may be expected to die within the next few hours or days. Others receive end of life care over many months.

Q: Is palliative care the same as end of life care?

Palliative care is available when you first learn you have a life-limiting (terminal) illness. End of life care is a form of palliative care you receive when you're close to the end of life.
