With children spending so much time at school, it’s crucial teachers and other staff help support children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Schools and teachers can support children’s mental health by:

  1. Talking to them. Have an honest and open conversation with them about their emotions and regularly ask how they’re doing.
  2. Have a lunchtime club. This can be in anything from baking to book clubs. It will help children and young people to get their minds off things and feel included in a community.
  3. Train your staff. The more school staff that know about mental health and how to spot the signs, the better. Our Children’s Mental Health online course will give your staff the necessary skills and knowledge.
  4. Keep active. Exercise isn’t just good for physical health, it’s also good for mental health and wellbeing.
  5. Give them the means to express themselves. Find a way to express their anger, anxiety or sadness through art or sticky notes.
