Care Home Mandatory Courses Overview
Safeguarding Adults – This course provides a general understanding of legislation and regulations that govern the protection of adults in Care Home settings, as well as a variety of related skills such as recognising symptoms of abuse, recognising unsafe practices and understanding failures in care.
Moving & Handling – Individuals working in Care Homes must have practical knowledge of how to safely and effectively move and handle older adults. This mandatory course covers the legal aspects of moving and handling, understanding what can go wrong, learning how to operate related equipment and more.
Medication – Most residents of Care Homes take some form of medication. It is therefore essential that Care Home workers are familiar with the principles and practices of assisting with medication and administering medications safely and effectively. The course will also cover an array of related topics.
Infection Control – Controlling the spread of infectious agents within the Care Home has never been so important. Care Home Mandatory Training teaches about legislation and risk assessment related to infection control, routes of transmission, steps for decontamination and more.
Food Hygiene – This mandatory course for Care Home workers covers the importance of food safety measures, basic food hygiene techniques, the safe storage of consumables, the safe preparation and presentation of food to Care Home residents, regulations governing food hygiene and much more.
Fire Safety – Fire is a significant threat in Care Home settings. Among other things, this course covers the legal responsibilities in relation to fire safety, awareness of fire risks, the different kinds of firefighting equipment and their use, how fires spread, and procedures to follow in case of fire.
First Aid – Vulnerable individuals often require first aid. This course covers employer responsibilities related to administering that aid, including how to recognise breathing problems, identifying common illnesses, identifying injuries in the wake of falls or slips, understanding CPR and more.
Care Certificate – There are many types of Care Certificates but in the case of Care Home Mandatory Training the most applicable is the End of Life Care Certificate. The course will cover a variety of care principles related to privacy and dignity, mental capacity, Advanced Care Planning, how to work in a person-centred way, the importance of communication and much more.
