What is classed as working at height?

Working at height includes any risk that involves falling from a distance. This includes:

• Work below ground level with a risk of falling – such as in pits or trenches
• Work above ground level – such as on ladders, scaffolding, roofs or elevated platforms
• Any work with a risk of falling from an edge, opening or fragile surface – such as unprotected edges, open windows or on weak materials
