The Care Certificate isn’t legally mandatory, but it’s the expected standard for anyone working in health and social care. Not having one will significantly reduce your chances of securing work in the UK care sector. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) expects all care providers to make sure that their staff adhere to the 16 Care Certificate standards if they:

• Are new to the health and care sector
• Are employed as a social care worker
• Provide direct care in a nursing home, residential home, or hospice
• Are a home care worker

The Care Certificate is designed to be completely portable. This means if you change jobs after receiving your Care Certificate, there’s no need to be retested before you can assume your duties with a new employer. Your Care Certificate training stays with you throughout your career.
